Gopuram 108: Meditate on Collective Energy

In ancient times, temples were built on the outskirts of villages in India. Travelers on foot and by bullock cart could see the Gopuram, or temple tower from far distances and this would let them know they would soon approach a village. The village temple was for weary travelers a place to find rest, refuge, supplies, and safety.

There are over 2 million temples in India. Mostly, Gopurams are found in South Indian temples. Gopurams are built with multiple levels, in odd numbers of 5, 7, and as much as 11 levels. Gopurams are ornately decorated with elaborate sculptures, depicting village history, telling stories, recounting myths, and conveying spiritual knowledge through the metaphors of symbol, sculpture, and expressive form.

People come together from far and wide to gather in temples to experience collective energy, the power of togetherness. Meditate on Collective Energy as you look at the Gopuram.

The Collective Energy of the temple in Thiruchendur can be described as the Beautiful Masculine.

Kalasam 9: Meditate on Collective Security

The Kalasam, the inverted pot, is a structure that sits at the apex of the tall Gopuram of a temple. Some temples have only one Kalasam at the top of a Gopuram, while other temples can have multiple Kalasams, such as 7 or 9.

The temple Kalasam is made of five precious and semi-precious metals combined such as gold, silver, brass, copper, and lead. Nine grains are typically stored in Kalasam, these are called the Navadhanya:

1) Barley

2) Ragi

3) Varagu

4) Thinai

5) Kambu

6) Horsegram

7) Saamai

8) Cholam

9) Paddy

Bengal Gram, Wheat, Horse Gram, Green Gram (mung), Rice, White beans, Black Sesame Seeds, Chick Peas or garbanzo beans, and Black Gram.

Mantram 108: Meditate on Collective Consciousness: The Gurudeva Ashottara

The Beautiful Masculine, who is the Jewel of Eternal Truths, is recognized for his beautiful qualities. His 108 qualities are described by his 108 names.

Aum Shri Subhramunyaya Namah, meaning Hail to the silent sage who shines bright.

May you create yourself in the form of the Beautiful Masculine by meditating on the mantram Aum Shri Subhramunyaya Namah. May you create yourself in the beautiful masculine form of the silent sage who shines bright.

May you become Golden Alchemists, who transform. May you illuminate yourself and all those around you. Aum. May you discover, within your deep inner self, the precious jewels hidden in daily alchemy with daily sadhana.

You are the Beautiful Ones, my Golden Alchemists, you are my Valiant Sacred Daughters and Valiant Sacred Sons.

I am Neelam,

Sundaram Sundaram
