Mindful Therapy and Counseling, Inc. Neelu Chawla, MS, LMFT is a marriage and family therapist who believes you create your own self. Integrating CBT, DBT, ACT, Jungian, and Narrative Therapy approaches, Neelu supports your process to create yourself within your own beliefs in health, healing, and wellness.

Philosophically, I'm a Jungian and Bharathiya. 

I integrate concepts such as repetition compulsion, ego development, healthy narcissism, collective consciousness, shadow work, archetype identification. I also reply on empirically-supported approaches such as CBT, DBT, ACT, EFT.

When we combine the above well-known Western approaches with the timeless teachings from Sanatana Dharam including meditation, yoga, tantra, chanting, bhakti, seva, we begin to train ourselves to build the best relationships with our selves and fulfilling relationships with others as well.

How do children tell adults they are suffering, feeling lonely and scared?

 

Most children are wired to survive and succeed no matter what their life circumstances. Maybe you didn't have access to help and support when you were growing up. Now, as a parent you're you want to give your children the very best help and support to overcome their problems. 

 

Usually children who act out are scared, sad, confused, lonely. Children who are acting out may show more aggression, non-compliance, defiance, depression, anxiety, attention and focus problems, temper tantrums, post-traumatic stress symptom, ADD/ADHD, ODD, falling grades, and problems in relationships with parents, teachers, peers. 

 

We help and support children of all ages to talk about or write about their feelings of suffering, loneliness, sadness, fear rather than acting out.

By talking and writing about their feelings, children of all ages develop more self-awareness and feel more empowered to do hard things in life like improve their relationships with parents, teachers, and peers and take on challenges in school, activities, and sports.

How do parents and co-parents overcome overwhelming stresses and conflicts?

 

Most parents are wired to overcome the worst odds to give their children the best possible. This can put overwhelming stress on parents and means facing more conflicts in family life.

 

Parents who are overwhelmed with stress and conflict usually keep going, put others needs first, and neglect their own self-care. They are too overwhelmed with too much to do to feel scared, sad, or helpless. Often, they hide their feelings and feel lonely and alone.

 

Parents overwhelmed with stress at home and work may withdraw from relationships, isolate from others, overwork, hide their feelings, choose stress relievers like alcohol, gambling, substance abuse, overeating, excessive mobile and internet use, and other addictive things. These addictive things do reduce stress and they also cause more stress, anxiety, and problems in relationships. 

 

We help parents to make time for themselves and prioritize their self-care.

As a parent, you deserve to have the best help and support for yourself. When you are taking care of yourself, you can take better care of your family. When love and bonding come with a dose of abuse and trauma included, it love and bonding become stressful and anxiety-provoking for intimate partners.

 

Usually couples who stress each other out report vague and unexplained reasons for feeling nervous, anxious, scared, confused, and alone in the relationship.
